By Manuel Toko Tutonda Three weeks before the choir was born on the 8th February 2003, God spoke to my wife Maria Tutonda and me as we were meditating in the evening, on the parable of talents found in Matthews 25:14-30: You are not pleasing me for giving up giving me glory through songs and bringing the lost to me through the talents I have graciously given you since Africa. I gave it freely, you also have to give it freely to people for their edification, encouragement and so on. We felt really guilty before God, for giving up his work that was saving many in Africa. God not only gave me the voice, but also the ability to compose whenever I wanted to do so. However this gift was buried in Europe. I continued to receive letters from Africa thanking the Lord for the songs I composed in Africa that were having a tremendous impact on people lives. These communities in Africa were really in needs of my new compositions, but I had none. This evening was crucial to my wife and me. We repented of that sin, prayed to the Lord to give us strength to multiply the talents He had given us. Therefore we decided to start a new choir. The Messenger Choir was then founded on 8th February 2003. |
